Volunteers Wanted!!!!

300 Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are the backbone of the Festival – they make the Fringe possible! Every year the Fringe Festival provides a non-juried, supportive environment for artists to perform and display their art. Without the help of energetic and dedicated volunteers, this would not be possible.

Please feel free to fill out a Volunteer Form and e-mail it to the Volunteer Coordinators
Samira Rose or Louisa Hache

volunteers@ottawafringe.com

Volunteering with the Fringe is a fun, rewarding experience and a great way to meet people and gain valuable experience.

When you volunteer with the Fringe, you get:

  • An official Ottawa Fringe Festival volunteer t-shirt
  • One voucher redeemable for admission to a Fringe performance of your choice for each shift you work before or during the festival.
  • Training at pre-festival workshops applicable to your volunteering interests.
  • An official letter of recognition and thanks for the valuable time that you chose to spend with us.
  • And have a really good time

Kafka and Son wins ‘Best in Fest’!

Kafka and Son wins Best In Fest!
With More Than 50 performances the competition for the coveted Best in Fest award was fiercer than ever!

Ottawa, ON, June 25, 2007: Alon Nashman’s Kafka and Son won the 2007 Ottawa Fringe Festival ‘Best in Fest’ award. At last night’s closing night ceremonies Festival Producer Kevin Waghorn announced the winner before artists and audiences alike.
Kevin commented that “This year it was an extremely close competition, I mean there were just so many great shows at the Festival this year and I think the Ottawa community really picked up on that!”
Kafka and Son received critical acclaim at this year’s Ottawa Fringe Festival with reviews such as Alvina Ruprecht commenting that “Kafka and Son is ready to go to the NAC stage as it is, right now!” Denis Armstrong of the Ottawa Sun said that “Performed to perfection by Nashman, Kafka and Son illuminates the tormented spirit of Kafka’s writings with breathtaking imagery and just the right amount of emotional chemistry.”
This isn’t the first time that Kafka and Son has received rave reviews, however. It premiered last year at the Al Green Theatre where the Globe and Mail said “[Nashman] conveys the requisite strength and vulnerability so expertly that you almost forget this is the same performer…”
The response to the show at this year’s Fringe Festival has been so incredible that the organizers decided to bump up the performance dates to Friday, June 29th and 30th as opposed to the usual performances in the fall.
“This is a clear example of how the Fringe is evolving.” Says Kevin Waghorn “The Fringe Festivals provide a crucible in which artists can explore their creativity without the constraints that you usually see in the performing arts and I think the Ottawa Fringe Festival is starting to see the fruits of those labors now.”
Showtimes for Kafka and Son’s ‘Best in Fest’ performances are Friday, June 29th at 8:00pm, Saturday, June 30th at 2:00pm and 8:00pm. Tickets are $12 and can be ordered in advance by contacting the Fringe Festival Box Office at 613 232-6162.
To book interviews, photo opportunities or any other media related information please contact Adam Stephens at (613) 232-6162 or by cell on (613) 796-2454 or by email at publicity@ottawafringe.com.
