    “The Opposite of Infinity ****/5

One moment, she’s a chatterbox eight-year-old gripping her best friend’s hand and gasping as she imagines floating above the stars. The next moment, Clara is a 28-year-old physics teacher, about to see Richard for the first time in 20 years — and it took her that long to realize her childhood buddy is the love of her life.
In this quirky one-woman journey, Tania Levy plays an outgoing science geek who has subconsciously held a torch for one man. Well, not a torch, but a glossy blue marble named Jupiter Jones, which hangs around her neck.
Quantum physics and astronomy are Clara’s reference points in life. Like the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, which says an observer can never know a particle’s momentum and position at the same time, Clara and Richard can’t seem to end up at the same place at one time, try as they might with instant messenger and cellphones. That is, until, she sees a sign for his philosophy lecture, and the planets finally align.
Levy masters the exhausting task of playing both herself and Richard in their childhood banter without ever confusing the audience. Despite a small audience Thursday, Levy never let her energy wane. The Ottawa performer’s stellar comic timing is captivating. Clara is the smart, articulate, dramatic and funny friend you’ll wish you could spend more time with. “

Review from VUE Weekly - Edmonton (August 2006)

The Opposite of Infinity (3)—Solo performances can get messy when they involve more than one character, too often defining roles through clichés or not bothering to differentiate between characters at all. Tania Levy avoids both of those problems with ease during this short show. It’s a quirky love story driven by the impending meeting between a physics teacher and her childhood friend for the first time in 20 years. Levy pulls off an engaging British accent when portraying the male friend, and she charms the audience as she reveals a sense of destiny through flashbacks of the characters as eight-year-old children. 3.5/5 EM

“As a reviewer, I have given 1/2 a star to productions and five to others. You can’t love everything. All a reviewer can do is respect the courage of anyone willing to speak their truth from that circle of light in a rough and tumble venue and in summation of the experience be balanced and fair.

Having said that, here are my top [ten] shows at this year’s festival….

    4. The Opposite of Infinity–A love story told with wit and warmth, Tania Levy brings a spunky sweetness of spirit to the Fringe.”

This play is fun and interesting and sweet. I’m oh so glad I chose to go and see it, because it provided insight into relationships, love and the malleable nature of time.

Tania Levy is also very easy on the eyes, which doesn’t hurt. :)

My boyfriend and I found this difficult to watch. Perhaps because the premise was so absurd. We also found Tania Levy physically awkward – particularly when she was playing the parts of the children.

Tania is the queen of staged romantic comedies. This show was sweet and a lot of fun to watch. Well worth it!
