In space, no one can hear you sing! Fortunately, this sci-fi musical homage unfolds in the Brazilian rainforest where an invisible alien Predator has claimed as its hunting grounds.  Its prey: man!! Who will save us?  Schwarzenegger?  Ripley? Buffy? This musical is bloody fun camp with all the entrail trimmings.

Tickets are 2 for 1 on opening night.
Deal is only available at the venue, not for advance tickets.

When Betty-Jane told me that Mike Kosowan is the star of Alien Predator: The Musical, I got so confused and then concerned about it. “You know that Mike can’t sing, right?” Betty-Jane told me that it got down to two actors vying for the role: the other guy is a strong singer, but the songs don’t really reflect his character, whereas Mike is comedy gold. He is such a funny guy that somehow he pulls it off and steals the show! I love the wordplay in the songs and the macho love song (blood is red! = festive). However, I am saddened that the female characters are ditzy, self-absorbed, shallow, sex objects. They are there for the sole purpose of making jokes about how a woman can’t say something assertive or angry without everyone assuming she’s on her period, etc. I criticize the show because I really enjoyed it overall and I want the best for it. My fan favourite!

Alien Predators is an intentionally silly slasher-musical involving some tough female commandos on a seach for a deadly alien in the rainforest of Brazil. The young performers are energetic and obviously having a lot of fun with this production. But there were some problems. One easily remedied difficulty was that the volume of the music was so loud that it was often impossible to make out the lyrics and dialogue. (Hopefully this problem has been addressed since the June 16 performance that I saw). More problematic was the uneven acting and the coarse humour that was repetetive and – well – not that funny. The alien is good fun though, and the music was well-written. But in my opinion, if you’re looking for a silly outerspace adventure, Space Mystery is a better bet.
