A very positive review by our colleague from the http://www.capitalcriticscircle.com

Gametes and Gonads is a comedic tale depicting the lives of sperm and eggs. As Jeff Lard says: ”It is a whole big series of events that follow the sperm and egg through their reproductive cycles into sex. It is the biological tragedy before birth.”

The story is told in the fashion of Star Trek, but instead of in outer space, it takes place where a human’s life is supposed to start. The war is about to begin – on one side the invading army of sperm is preparing an attack on the city of eggs – Ovaria – whose population is ready to defend its freedom and integrity. With many witty and hilariously funny twist and turns, the sperm army fights to the last warrior, just to be defeated and to arrive to its melting end.

This is a one-man show, but thanks to Leard’s superb acting abilities, the stage comes to life with numerous characters. He switches between scenes with acrobatic tumbles and leaps, and simultaneously changes voices and produces props and backdrops. There isn’t a moment of hesitation, not a single mistake in his production. Moves, actions, and sounds are well synchronized, and his focus and energy remains unchanged from the beginning to the end of the show.
Jeff Leard is a talented writer and actor. This fresh and unexpected comedy caught the audience completely unprepared. It was a very enjoyable 45 minutes.

The continuous laughter throughout the show and applause, as loud as Leard’s performance, proves it.

Gametes and Gonads plays at Academic Hall.

  2. G&G

Jeff Leard is a real whiz. I met him while waiting to see another show and took a chance. Super, fast fun, subtle and sometimes in your face funny, but always well done. Bravo. One more chance to see this frenetic and very talented actor on Saturday night at 11 p.m. Highly recommended.

  3. Fringe Weedle

To be honest, my fringe friend and I had no intention of seeing this show. But we found ourselves in front of Academic Hall with an hour to spare and a G&G flyer in our hands… so we decided to take a chance. We were both glad we did. This is a funny, fast-paced, one-man-with-multiple-personalities show. Despite the sexual subject matter, G&G is not offensive or crass. Instead, it takes a unique look at the biological battle of the sexes with humour, insight and compassion. The pace is too fast to be laugh-out-loud funny, but you’ll leave smiling all the same. Definitely recommended.

Star War and Star Trek meet and have an orgasm!
Show is a one man show with a ton of laughs. Great way to start or end an evening (or afternoon)
