Surprise: 2 chanteurs anglophones!
Melanie and Bremner both have great voices. Melanie, in particular, can raise the rafters, and the brickwork in the Mercury Lounge certainly resonates well for her. I can only assume that’s a security mike in front of her, as god knows she doesn’t need one. Bremner is also very good, but a little more distracting to watch sing – he seems to fidget a bit (I just closed my eyes). He also hangs onto a black binder for help with lyrics and patter. One suspects that they haven’t had quite enough time to really tune this show well. In their final duet, I also noticed that they begin and end a line at the same time, but that they pace their vocals a little differently getting there, which blurred the words somewhat.
That said, we both had a great time. The songs are classic, the atmosphere fits, and they deserve the walk down to the site.
