Beer Tent, The
mutatis mutandis
Writer/Creator: Kel Parsons and David Whiteley
A tour-de-farce of theatrical one-upmanship and alcoholical down-the-hatchmanship. David Whiteley and Kel Parsons are two theatre whores who’ve been on a few too many stages and far too many benders. Names are dropped, obscure references are out-obscured, and LOL Cats: The Viral Musical is born. Enjoy a show and a pint in the basement of the Laurier Oak!

[...] short plays include The Squatter Heart, Inclement Weather, The Tribulations of a Failed Vigilante, The Beer Tent (the play not the location), and, of course, No Exit [...]
Kel Morin-Parsons is sharing a pitcher of Cosmos with David Whiteley twice nightly in the cool basement of the Royal Oak on Laurier in a wonderful show called (appropriately) The Beer Tent. The two of them cattily name names and claw at the reputations of just about everyone in the Ottawa theatre scene.
If you’re upset that you’re one of the names named, the cast did offer in advance that they weren’t above accepting bribes to take people out of the show. Similarily if you’re upset that you’re NOT one of the names named, they also offered to put people in the show, for a modest fee. Sadly neither of these fundraising approaches worked. But the offers did get some attention.
And bums in seats. I saw Jessica Ruano “raked over the coals” and she was laughing uncontrollably.
She wasn’t the only one laughing. The night I attended, a third of the lines were being obscured by audience laughter. I, of course, did NOT in any way shape or form contribute to the laughter, and merely sipped my pint.
Unlike the louts who took advantage of the fact that the show was in a pub and joined the crowd with pitchers of beer in hand and groaning boards of food delivered by the local minions.
All in all, a good, if short (30 minutes) time was had by all. Worth coming downtown.
